The Glass House Summer Party is an annual celebration held at The Glass House, a National Trust Historic Site designed by Philip Johnson and built between 1949 and 1995. Set across a 49 acre pastoral landscape of fourteen architectural structures, the event brings together architecture, art, and contemporary cultural life.

The mood board establishes a visual direction for the 2024 Summer Party, drawing from the site’s modernist geometry, spatial clarity, and landscape composition, and setting the tone for a celebration that honors the Glass House’s architectural legacy while marking a significant anniversary moment.

Process

The print invitation for the Glass House Summer Party translates the site map into a bold, abstracted graphic composition. Each block of color and shape represents a key location on the grounds of The Glass House: the Glass House, the Brick House, and the pool, with distinct colors used to differentiate the three spaces. Architectural silhouettes are reduced to elemental forms, allowing spatial relationships to drive the layout while maintaining clarity and legibility. Set in ITC Avant Garde Gothic, the typography references the modernist lineage of the site and reinforces the connection between graphic structure and architectural history. Together, color, form, and type transform wayfinding logic into a celebratory visual system that marks
both the 75th anniversary and the reopening of the Brick House.

The digital invitation adapts the graphic system into a sequence of animated frames, allowing the shapes and color blocks to shift and reconfigure over time.
The animation introduces rhythm and temporality to the invitation, extending the logic of the printed materials into a dynamic format that supports digital circulation while preserving clarity, legibility, and cohesion across the system.
